'I hadn’t even reached my car when the pager started blowing up': Tech employee doing the work of four people isn't given overtime, leaves work early instead

Bosses love to tell their employees they need to work as much as humanly possible in the smallest amount of time. They'll twist themselves a pretzel to avoid saying what they actually mean: "You need to work on this project off the clock, even though it's just the regular part of your day-to-day job." They know they can't actually direct their employees to work overtime without pay, so they have to apply pressure in other ways. 

It's hard not to give in to these pressures, especially if there are bonuses on the line, or if your work affects others on your team. This person not only had pressure from their boss, but as a technician, they were constantly getting help tickets from people who needed tech assistance. u/Young_Grandpa shared that they were doing the work of four people, working through lunch and 30 minutes worth of break time to complete all their tasks. But when they tried to tell their boss about how hard they were working, "he started to get a little panicky," this employee shared.
